Hosea: An Introduction and an Outline

Author: The prophet Hosea, son of Beeri. He was a citizen of the northern kingdom, and he lived during the reigns of Jeroboam II (Israel), as well as Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah (Judah). Hosea was prophetically active from about 755-715 B.C.

Date: Just prior to the conquest of Israel by Assyria in 722 B.C.

Recipients: The northern kingdom (Israel)

Purpose: A warning of judgment, a call to repentance, and a promise of restoration.
