Yesterday we learned what causes us to grow weary in our service to the Lord. Today, we will consider The Prerequisite for Reaping:
6:9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
6:10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
1. We Will Reap If We Do Not Grow Weary
• Of course, the opposite is true as well - - we will not reap if we do grow weary.
• It is not enough to scatter the seed of the Gospel. We must continue the cultivation process if we expect to enjoy a spiritual harvest one day.
2. The Uncertainty of the Time of Spiritual Harvest
• If a farm sows his seed in the spring, he can expect a harvest in the fall. A servant of Christ, however may have to wait months or years to enjoy the spiritual harvest. Here are a couple of examples of this principle:
• William Carey baptized the first Indian believer in the Ganges River on December 28, 1800, seven years after arriving in the county.
• The missionaries who ministered to the Mouk tribe enjoyed a great spiritual harvest only after years of language acquisition, learning the culture, Bible storying, and presenting the Gospel.
• The phrase “due time” in this verse means "in God’s own good time." In God’s time we will reap if we purpose to continue ministering even when the going gets tough. This is a promise!
Tomorrow, we will learn what it means to "keep on keeping on" in Galatians 6:10.
